Entering the Final Stretch

The completion of the Raise the Roof project is in sight thanks to the tremendous support of alumni and businesses who have donated both cash and in kind contributions.  Take a look at the photo below.  It’s hard to believe that there was only seating on the south side of Susick Stadium a couple of years ago.

The Raise the Roof team recently sent out an update that we would like to share. Here is the letter with additions in red to compensate for the fact that this is an electronic version versus the actual hard copy of the letter.

Dear Friends,

We hope you and your family are doing well and that you have been successful in navigating the many challenges that have occurred during this extraordinary year! There appears to be a tiny light at the end of the tunnel and our fingers are crossed we will get there soon!

This past fall Pete Susick Stadium was chosen by Stadium Talk as the best high school stadium in the state of Oregon (see attached write up). And to think MHS received the honor and recognition with the south grandstands being a work in progress!! We could not be more proud! This community has always believed in the staff and students at Marshfield High School and finishing a project that was started over 20 years ago provides the opportunity to show them! We are excited with the work that has been done so far and look forward to finishing it up.

During this pandemic year we (Pete Susick Stadium Committee) have been steadily working to complete the south grandstands of Pete Susick Stadium. The roof has been successfully installed, the press boxes are nearing completion and plans for the restrooms and ADA accessway are in full swing. However, due to the “lost year” with the pandemic, our completion date has been pushed out to September 2022.

All that said, and although we are inching forward to completion, our work is far from over. As with any major project, fundraising is a huge part. This past fall we received $25,000 from the Ford Family Foundation. We are currently waiting to hear back from the Oregon Community Foundation about the grant we applied for through their organization.  Even if we are fortunate enough to be awarded funds from this entity, we know it will not be enough to see us through to the end. Our goal is to raise an additional $85,000. With YOUR help, we believe we can not only complete the south grandstands but do so by our target date of September 2022.

We have enclosed three items, including a copy of the article regarding Pete Susick Stadium being chosen as the best high school stadium in Oregon [link here], a color picture of the stadium taken by alumnus Sam Scott [top of this page], and a donation envelope [donation directions here]. Please note your donation is tax deductible. CBSD Tax ID # 93-6000348
